Catherine leads the firm and still takes first chair in the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court. She was conferred Senior Counsel in 2021.
Biography
Catherine Hale, SC has been Managing Partner since 2019 and remains an active advocate. She appears in commercial, constitutional, and judicial-review matters in the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Kenya.
She took silk in 2021. Before joining the partnership she served as a legal officer in the Attorney-General’s chambers and taught civil procedure at the Kenya School of Law. Clients retain her when the record is already public and the other side has drafted the press statement.
She sits on the Law Society of Kenya’s committee on the administration of justice and does not comment on pending proceedings.
Representative matters
- Lead counsel in a KES 4.8 billion High Court commercial suit; judgment for the client after a three-week hearing.
- Judicial review of a county finance act; orders granted, later affirmed in the Court of Appeal.
- Supreme Court petition on the interpretation of Article 40 in a compulsory-acquisition dispute.
